DEI Statement & Initiatives and Indigenous Land Acknowledgment

At The Origin Company, we celebrate and welcome the diversity and inclusion of people regardless of race, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability, and religion. This includes thoughts, ideas, beliefs and experiences. We are a pro-inclusion and anti-racism business dedicated to upholding and enforcing policies and practices to support it. Ultimately, we’re committed to doing our part to support liberation.

The Origin Company is based in Miami, FL on the unceded land which was originally occupied by the Tequesta people who’s numbers dwindled by the 1800’s due to genocide, slavery, and disease. Now this area is home to the Miccosukee and Seminole Tribes. The Miccosukee people have a matrilineal system of inheritance and kinship and have operated as a sovereign, dependent nation within the United States Government since 1962. The Seminole remained unconquered and sovereign for thousands of years despite genocide organized by the US Government, war, displacement, and disease. The Seminole way of life and business is dependent on the healthy Everglades ecosystem and the tribe is committed to ongoing projects that ensure the well being of the land and water systems within their reservation to ensure the sustainable, long-term well being of their people. Company:
Our goal is to stay current in all areas of DEI by requiring our team to go through annual trainings and ongoing education throughout the year. We are committed to collaborating with other companies only when they have an expressed commitment to DEI initiatives including but not limited to diverse representation amongst guest speakers. When making decisions regarding vendors, coaches, and consultants, we actively seek to invest with businesses that represent diverse ownership, as well.

Team:
Our goal is to keep our team diversified as a way to better understand, support, and serve our community. We know that in nature, diversity creates healthier, thriving ecosystems. We also know that we, as humans, are nature, so, same thing applies.

Community:
Our goal is to serve a diverse community of customers and create a consistently inclusive experience. In order to do this we’re committed to diverse representation in our marketing materials and diverse representation in our program faculty.

Leader/CEO/Leadership:
Our CEO, Kate Northrup, is committed to a lifelong practice of unraveling her own unconscious bias and participating in collective liberation. This includes, but is not limited to, working with diverse coaches, reading books written by people of diverse identities, participating in ongoing DEI trainings, having hard conversations, and making mistakes and repairing when possible.
